ACTIVE DISCIPLES AT MASS

Discern your gifts & offer them to God and our community!

Through his Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension - the Paschal Mystery - Jesus Christ redeems humanity and offers perfect praise to God. In the Sacred Liturgy, all the baptized faithful are summoned to participate in Christ's sacrifice of praise as members of the liturgical assembly. This is the primary liturgical ministry we all participate in as we celebrate the Mass.

To facilitate the full, conscious, and active participation of the liturgical assembly, God calls and equips ordained and lay ministers to exercise specific liturgical ministries.

At the Cathedral, over 80 lay liturgical ministers exercising a variety of ministries are needed each weekend! After prayerfully discerning the gifts God has given you, we encourage you to share those gifts by contacting us to discuss serving as a liturgical minister.

Ministries of the Altar

Altar Servers - assist the priest at Mass and carry cross, candles, and incense in procession. Both boys and girls may train as altar servers in 5th grade or later.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion - assist the priest and deacon in sharing the Body and Blood of Christ with the faithful at Mass.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick or Homebound - bring Holy Communion on Sunday morning to homebound parishioners and those Catholics who are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities within our boundaries.

Lectors - proclaim the Word of God & offer the Universal Prayer in the absence of a Deacon.

Sacristans - prepare the sanctuary, sacred vessels, ritual books, and other materials needed for a rich and effective liturgical celebration.

Ministries of Hospitality

Hospitality Ministers - pass out liturgy guides & welcome the Presence of Christ that dwells in all who gather for worship, provide hospitality, offer seating assistance, take up the collection, and a ensure a safe environment during the celebration.

Ministry of Sacred Music

Singing and chanting are an essential parts of our worship when we gather on Sunday to celebrate the Eucharist. When we sing together at Mass, the Holy Spirit unites us with Christ and one another as we glorify and praise God the Father!

We often hear the phrase "singing is praying twice" attributed to St. Augustine. At the Cathedral, many parishioners enjoy participating in music ministry. We invite you to discern your musical gifts and prayerfully consider how God may be calling you to share them with our parish community.

ACTIVE DISCIPLES IN FORMATION & FELLOWSHIP

The Church, as the Body of Christ, is truly a community in the fullest sense of the word.  Here at the Cathedral we offer a variety of different social functions so that parishioners can get to know each other and grow in relationship with one another.  In our parish family, we encourage and help facilitate fun and fellowship.

Fellowship is more than just socializing.  Fellowship is praying together, serving together, and growing together while being surrounded by people who help us to be better Catholics every day.

Our parish runs on volunteers, which we call active disciples.  We need you!  Please prayerfully consider how you would like to serve at our Cathedral family.  Several opportunities are listed below.

Kitchen and Rectory

Kitchen
Rectory Meals - Help feed our priests!  Our priests are always on the go and home cooked meals are much appreciated.

Rectory Office - We need friendly, welcoming people to help us in the Rectory Office.  Active disciples will greet people as they walk into the office, answer phones, work with the staff, photocopy, type, file and help prepare for large projects and group mailings. Confidentiality is essential.
Money Counters - If you have a background in accounting or bookkeeping or just like to count, this might be a good fit for you.  This job requires the utmost discretion and confidentiality.

Coffee & Donuts - Active disciples are needed to help Sundays after the 8:00AM and 10:30AM Masses. You will be helping maintain the intentional beauty of Saint Joseph Hall, serving and replenishing refreshments, and other duties that will help with keeping the event run smoothly.

Community Outreach

As a parish we take seriously our call to be Christ to the world.  We want the community around us to be a better place because the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is here. As the Chief Operating Officer for Catholic Relief Services said,"We don't help people because they are Catholic --- We help people because we are Catholic."

How can you help in our community and beyond?   Here are several opportunities for our parishioners to be able to be Christ's hands and feet in the world.

Knights of Columbus - Parish chapter holds various events during the year serving our church and community.
New Hope Jail Ministry - Offer Bible study and fellowship to prisoners in the Pennington County Jail.

Saint Vincent de Paul - This group is involved directly in the community helping to feed, clothe, house and heal individuals and families in our community who have nowhere else to turn.
