ANOINTING OF THE SICK

ANOINTING OF THE SICK AND FUNERALS

SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK

The proper time for receiving this holy anointing has arrived when an individual begins to be in danger of death because of illness or old age. The belief that the anointing of the sick should be received only in the moments before death, is a misconception. The sacrament is often received:

  1. Before surgery, or a serious medical procedure.

  2. During a long-term or terminal illness.

  3. Experiencing health issues related to old age.

The anointing of the sick is a prayer of healing, not only for our physical healing, but also for spiritual health, and for the strength, peace, and courage to bear the burden of illness. Contact the parish office or one of the parish priests if you are in need of the sacrament of anointing of the sick.

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is offered anytime someone needs special support and strength when facing a health challenge. If you would like to be anointed, please contact us and we will try to accommodate your request as soon as possible.

This sacrament is not only for those persons who are near death. If someone receives this sacrament and recovers, they are able to receive the sacrament again in case of a grave illness in the future.

Anointing of the Sick and Last Rites
An anointing from a priest can be received during any illness or even for an upcoming surgery (for those aged 7 years+), and again whenever a condition worsens... even after office hours.

To request an anointing, please call the Rectory Office anytime at 605-342-0507.
