Our Youth Ministry is continually striving to show our youth the fullness of truth, and the way to live it out in Christ-centered life. Motivated by St. John Paul the Great's words:

“It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your heart your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle.

It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be ground down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal.”

OLPH Youth Ministry believes in this truth, and our mission is to share it.

Life Teen is our high school program and EDGE is our middle school program. Both programs take place on Sunday evenings. All 6th-12th grader teens (Catholic or not) are invited to join us! Our Life Nights officially begin following the 5:30pm Mass with dinner in the parish hall. Then, following supper, the Life Teen & EDGE programs spit off to dive into an evening of community building games/activities, an engaging message and small groups.

As a Eucharist-centered movement within the Roman Catholic Church, Life Teen leads teenagers and their families into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. With the Blessed Virgin Mary as our intercessor and guide, Life Teen seeks to unleash the fullness of the Sacramental power present within the young Church.

  • Build community to help teens feel connected to the Church at both the small & large group level

  • Provide relevant and engaging teachings on the Catholic faith to give teens a place to learn and ask questions about the faith

  • Lead teens to encounter Jesus through prayer, discussion and in-depth teaching of our faith

  • Gather: Begin nights with an engaging activity/ game that reflects the night’s topic

  • Proclaim: Dive into an interactive 15-minute Catholic teaching

  • Break: split into small group for group-lead discussion. Groups typically remains consistent throughout the year

  • Send: Lead teens a different experience of prayer to encounter Jesus

Check out our Life Nights FAQs below and contact Laura with any additional questions.

What is a series?
A series is a grouping of 4-8 nights where the messages are all connected under a common theme.  This approach allows for deeper content/discussions into topics over simply brushing over the surface. They are relevant to teen’s life in both practical and spiritual way.

What’s the deal with small groups?
Small groups provide the teens with an opportunity to discuss the night’s topic in a less intimidating-sized group. We knowing that a large group experience can be too daunting for some teens to feel comfortably opening up. Teens will get placed in a small group at the beginning of the year, and they will traditionally remain in the same small group with the same leaders throughout the year.

My high schooler goes to Catholic school.  Why should they come to Life Teen?
Investing in Catholic schooling is a big commitment and provides teens with incredible intellectual formation in the teachings of the Catholic faith.  At Life Teen, we believe that the key to engaging a teen in their faith is to move them beyond knowing the facts regarding God to actually knowing God.  The intellectual formation that your teen has received at school will be a great foundation to their experience at Life Teen! Now let’s continue to build up community while tackling challenging issues and more-deeply discover God’s great love.

My high schooler won’t know anyone at Life Teen.  Will they feel welcomed?
It is our goal on these nights to make every teen who walks through our doors feel welcomed as a part of our OLPH parish family.  We aim to make this happen through radical hospitality by our core team of adult leaders, and our intentional small group experience. Obviously finding a true sense of community takes time, but we strive to make it happen for all as quick and naturally as possible. Reach out to us, please if your teen doesn’t ever feel welcome. We’d love to make efforts to change his experience. Email or call Laura Hawk.
