Ways to Get Involved

God has given us twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. God has also given everyone talents and gifts.
There are many activities that make demands on our time and talent. We can’t do everything. However, if everyone does one thing, imagine what we can accomplish!

This booklet provides an opportunity for you to look at the many opportunities we have to be of service to our parish.
It invites you to pray about and consider giving back to God through volunteering, a portion of the time and talent he has given you.

This call to service is really an invitation to live our life in imitation of Christ who gave all that he had for our sake. In our gift of time and talent, we GROW IN CHRIST and continue to live our faith through our service to our brothers and sisters of the Cathedral Parish.

Members do not live in community, but come together in fraternity on a regular basis to pray, learn and share a living faith. At profession, they pledge to live the gospel in the manner of St. Francis by means of a Rule of Life approved by the Church. The current Rule was confirmed by Pope Paul VI in June, 1978.

Profession in the Order is a lifetime commitment; the pathway to profession is at least a two and a half year process :

orientation, inquiry, and candidacy. After profession, the newly professed join the fraternity in on-going formation.

Hope for New Life Jail Ministry

Contact Tony Galles (348-2301) or Mary Sperlich (342-9343)

As the name of our Ministry implies, we seek to inspire “Hope for New Life” in the hearts of the men and women incarcerated in the Pennington County Jail. Our ministry is now in its eighth year. The Jail Ministry is composed of men and women from the Rapid City
Diocese who are inspired by the Holy Spirit to share the Gospel's promises with our less fortunate brothers and sisters. We come from varied backgrounds and life experiences, but we are united in our hope to share our faith with those in need.
Every Wednesday evening members of our ministry are scheduled to go to the jail. Two  members meet with the men in two separate groups  and two members meet with the women. At each meeting, one ministry member serves as group facilitator and one serves as presenter of a spiritual topic or an inspirational DVD. The inmates who attend our ministry presentations are required to meet jail guidelines for good behavior. The men and women in the jail come from many different faiths, while some may have no faith experience. But all seem to truly desire to hear our message and most actively participate in our presentations. At the conclusion of each group, we solicit prayer requests from the inmates. Therefore, our ministry also needs prayer partners to share these prayer requests with Our Heavenly Father.
